Three convicted in fatal fentanyl overdose cases

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Three people pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl that resulted in a death, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

Prosecutors say 27-year-old Kloud Logan Jones, of Mt. Sterling, pleaded guilty in October to distributing a lethal drug to a man while they both were inmates at the Montgomery County Regional Jail.

Video surveillance from the jail captured the incident.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration jointly investigated the death, which led to federal charges.

In a separate case, prosecutors say 26-year-old Garry Sean Ramone Drake, of Lexington, pleaded guilty in November to distribution of fentanyl resulting in the death of an individual in Fayette County.

Another man, 23-year-old Phillip Clayton Jennings, of Lexington, was also convicted in connection to the overdose death.

Prosecutors say evidence showed that both Drake and Jennings were in the chain of distribution of the fentanyl mixture that led to the death.

All three defendants face a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
