Thousands Of Pills Turned In During Drug Disposal Day In Owsley County
A total of 21,377 unused or out-of-date prescription and over-the-counter drugs were collected in just two hours in Owsley County Monday during "Clean Your Medicine Cabinet Out Day."
Operation UNITE’s "Pill Dragon" was on site for the day. It’s a mobile incinerator made possible through a collaboration with the Kentucky Army National Guard and Eastern Kentucky PRIDE.
Since the "Pill Dragon" was unveiled in August 2010, more than a million pills have been destroyed in the incinerator, according to UNITE officials.
In an ongoing effort to help Owsley County residents safely dispose of their medications, a medication drop box will be available at the Sheriff’s Office year round.
