Thousands of Kentucky students attend Lexington Legends Education Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Thousands of Kentucky students filled Whitaker Bank Ballpark Wednesday for the Lexington Legends vs West Virginia Power game. But it was more than an ordinary game, it was Education Day.

It’s the first of three the ballpark will host this season. The themed day provides elementary, middle and high school students in Kentucky the unique opportunity to learn outside of a classroom setting.

CEO and President of the Lexington Legends, Andy Shea, says about 4,000 students came from across the state.

“Our goal is to educate all students on all of the science, the math, the history that has been in our game of baseball. But then, obviously also to have a little fun at the ballpark,” said Shea.

Fayette County public schools teamed up with the Legends, to bring a science themed bus to each of the Education Day events, providing students with interactive activities inside.

Lexmark is also providing educational opportunities for students with their STEM Program Tent.

We asked some Roundstone Elementary students about their favorite part of the event. Answers ranged from Big L to the food and getting to go on a field trip.

“Cheering on the Legends,” said Tatum Bishop.

Any schools interested in attending a Legends Education Day can still sign up. You can get more information HERE.
