“This month celebrates the unique tapestry of our cultures.”
Ice cream shop expands into grocery store, and celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 6 NEWS NOW) — Hispanic Heritage Month is typically celebrated September 15th through October 15th, the whole month honors the Hispanic and Latino culture, their contributions to history and the culture in the U.S. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Latino population in the U.S. is over 60 million.
Fabian says, “it’s about creating a welcoming space for a whole Lexington community to experience the flavors and traditions of Latin America,” as she embarks in a new adventure.
Through ice cream, her family has been able to introduce others to flavors of Latin America, but now, Argelia is venturing out into helping expand that legacy into a grocery store.
“It has been a great impact on the community where they have everything in one stop, so it saves them a trip,” as she talks about La Princesa Supermarket.
Adding that, while expanding was the goal, the ability to also share a bit of the culture is a plus.
“It reflects our family’s tradition and migration from Mexico and highlights the importance of supporting one another. This month celebrates the unique tapestry of our cultures.
And in our grocery store, we aim to represent not just Mexico, but the diversity of Latin American countries, showcasing the richness of our heritage through food,” says Fabian.
Adding that she is hopeful on expanding the legacy for years to come.
“Ultimately, I want to create a space where everyone can gather, celebrate our cultures and enjoy the best of, for Latin America has to offer,” adds Fabian.
And while times may be difficult, she encourages others who may also want to make an impact, “to anyone out there following their dreams, remember that every little step counts.
Don’t be afraid to take risks and embrace your culture,” said Fabian.
La Princesa Supermarket now has a location inside for Panchitos Ice Cream, the store is located on 1747 Alexandria Dr.
