WASHINGTON (AP) – A partial government shutdown began Saturday, but it’s expected to be short-lived. Lawmakers are set to return to Capitol Hill Monday, where the House plans to move quickly on funding legislation that could end the shutdown.

Congress has already approved about half of this year’s funding bills, keeping many federal agencies and programs running through September. Nutrition assistance programs, for example, will not be affected.

However, funding has lapsed for the Pentagon and departments including Homeland Security and Transportation. Essential services will continue, but some federal workers could face furloughs or delayed pay if the shutdown continues.
