Texas Police Investigate CPS Over Case With KY Ties

Police in Abilene, Texas are investigating Child Protective Services in a tragic case with central Kentucky ties.
In August, 22-month-old Tamryn Klapheke was found unresponsive with burns on her body.
She was also malnourished and dehydrated.
 She later died.
Her mother, Tiffany Klapheke, once lived in Scott County and is the wife of a serviceman stationed overseas.
Police said Child Protective Services closed the case six days before Tamryn died and that it was done without a face-to-face visit.
Police launched the investigation after they said some CPS supervisors would not cooperate with investigators looking into the case.
"The department became aware of instances in which CPS employees were told by CPS supervisors not to cooperate with law enforcement," said Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge. "Additionally, records were requested by detectives as part of the ongoing investigation. However, those documents were not immediately rendered."
Police said they did eventually get those documents.
The Associated Press said Klapheke’s husband, Thomas, has filed for divorce.
