Texas man arrested in connection with Versailles bank robbery
VERSAILLES, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Police in Versailles say a man from Texas is now in custody following a bank robbery that happened late last month in Woodford County.
According to a release from the Versailles Police Department, 37-year-old Xavier Green of Houston was arrested in connection with the January 29 robbery at the PNC Bank in Versailles.
Investigators say Green walked into the bank just after 3:20 p.m. and demanded money from a teller. The teller handed over cash, and Green left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police say detectives worked with the Woodford County Attorney’s Office to obtain an arrest warrant on January 31, charging Green with second-degree robbery.
Later that same day, law enforcement located a vehicle believed to have been used in the robbery at a hotel in Lexington. Officers conducted surveillance overnight, and the next morning Green was seen leaving the hotel in a vehicle with other people.
Lexington police took Green into custody without incident. He was then taken to the Woodford County Detention Center, where he remains as he awaits his initial court appearance.
The Versailles Police Department says the investigation involved help from the Lexington Police Department, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Prosecutors from the 14th Judicial Circuit are handling the case.
Anyone with additional information related to the robbery is encouraged to contact the Versailles Police Department.
