Texas A&M sweeps Kentucky 3-0 for NCAA volleyball championship
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – No. 3 seed Texas A&M swept No. 1 seed Kentucky in straight sets (26-24) (25-15) (25-20) to win the NCAA volleyball national championship Sunday afternoon. It marked the first national title in program history for the aggies.
Texas A&M defeated three No. 1 seeds during its title run. The Aggies beat Nebraska in five sets in the Elite Eight and swept Pitt in the Final Four to advance to the championship match.
The Aggies held the Wildcats to a .148 hitting percentage on Sunday, Kentucky’s lowest of the season, including a -.021 mark in the second set. The Wildcats committed 23 errors in the match, including nine service errors.
Kentucky had previously defeated Texas A&M in four sets during the regular season on Oct. 8.
The Wildcats finished the season 30-3 overall, with losses to Nebraska, Pitt and Texas A&M.
