Ten Year Old Girl “Runs Away” From Muscular Dystrophy
Lily was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.
Now in middle school, she is not just coping with the disease, she is thriving with it.
She is an avid runner
Her reason for running: "I do it for all the kids that would run if they could."
Lily competes in 5K’s, 10K’s, and most recently, half marathons.
Her 1st half marathon was in Myrtle Beach and is the one she says she is most proud of.
She ran that race with her grandmother.
They encourage her running and keep her spirits lifted when she is down.
Lily says there are some times when she will go in her room and have a huge crying fit because she can;t straighten my arms but she doesn’t let it affect her.
Lily has also found great comfort within her MFA family.
She says the best thing has been camp because "they treated me like i was a regular kid even when i needed help maybe washing my hair or getting to thing i couldn’t. I feel like they made me feel like i was unique and special but not different…and that’s the really big part of muscular dystrophy."
