Teens Returning To Kentucky After Alleged “Bonnie and Clyde” Crime Spree

An 18-year-old suspected of committing a string of crimes with his 13-year-old girlfriend is returning to his home state of Kentucky to face charges.

Dalton Hayes and Cheyenne Phillips were arrested early Sunday in Panama City Beach after being found sleeping in a stolen vehicle.

During an early Monday morning court arraignment at the Bay County Courthouse, Hayes agreed to return to Kentucky instead of going through a formal extradition process.

According to the Grayson County Sheriff, Hayes will be charged with burglary, theft, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief.

He also said Hayes will be charged with evading police in another Kentucky county.
He described the arrest of the couple in Panama City as “the best possible outcome for a potentially volatile situation.”

Their alleged crime spree started in Kentucky on January 4 and went through North and South Carolina and down to Georgia, before finally ending in Florida.

They are accused of destroying a cattle farm, breaking into homes, forging stolen checks and stealing three pickup trucks.

The sheriff said the pair caused thousands of dollars in damage. The homeowners are in the process of totaling that amount for a case report.

Phillips will face charges in juvenile court since she is a minor. Because of that, Hayes could face additional counts of kidnapping and statutory rape.
