Teen Accused of Stealing Police Cruiser
Lexington police said they went to the home of the officer who was issued the cruiser and noticed it was missing.
They were notified later that State Police had pulled the vehicle over in Franklin County following a 20 mile chase, which reportedly reached speeds up to 125 mph. They said a tire-deflation device had to be deployed to get it to stop.
State Police said they found three teenagers inside the cruiser after they managed to pull it over at the 53 mile marker on I-64.
They were all taken into custody.
According to Lexington officers, this isn’t the first time the driver has taken city vehicles out for joy rides.
The officer in charge of the stolen cruiser returned to work as normal.
However, he and his wife, who serves as a safety officer, will no longer be allowed to keep city vehicles at their home.
