Technology Helping Deaf-Blind Teen Get Ahead

Joseph Boggs used to be up until 3am sifting through pages upon pages of homework, just trying to read and understand what was taught in school that day.

Bogg’s sight has severe tunnel vision which is like seeing through straws. His hearing can only pickup certain pitches, making school virtually impossible.

That was until his family reached out to the Kentucky Deaf-Blind Project.

The Project worked with  Boggs, helping him get an IPad  with specified apps. and other technologies that helps him see  and hear what his teachers are teaching.

Boggs, who was once considered three grade levels behind, is now caught up with students his own age.

He says the work of the Kentucky Deaf-Blind Project has inspired him to want to go to college and study assistive-technologies like what’s helping him now.

The Kentucky Deaf-Blind Project works with more than 180 kids across the state.

They say the work they’re doing with Boggs is helping them in their work with those other children.
