Teachers who made a difference honored
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – For twenty years, the best in education has been honored by the Teacher Who Made a Difference program.
Ben Riley was honored last year after being nominated by one of his kindergarten students. This year he’s back as a speaker.
“I think this year I’ve never been more committed to education in my life,” said Riley.
Erin Jackson is one of the educators honored this year after mentoring a PhD student.
“I come from a family of educators. I’ve always seen how valuable educators can be to myself, to other students. I think it’s great that something like this can be put together,” said Jackson.
Mary Ann Vimont was inspired to start the program after seeing former Kentucky basketball coach Tubby Smith talking to students about the importance of education.
“One of the things we do is prepare teachers. Why don’t we have a platform where we can honor teachers?” said Vimont.
Many of the teachers ABC 36 spoke with wanted to stay clear of politics, but don’t deny it’s been an unforgettable year.
“I just continue to support education. I continue to support teachers. I believe in teaching. If I had to do it all over again, I would go into teaching,” said Vimont.
