Teacher pleads guilty to sex with student

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A central Kentucky teacher has pleaded guilty to having a sexual relationship with a student in Frankfort and resigned her job.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported (http://bit.ly/1tdV3lt ) that Carrie Staples Williams told a judge on Monday she had an inappropriate relationship with a student who was then-17-years-old. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Zach Becker says the relationship took palce between September 2006 and January 2007, when the teacher was 23-years-old

Williams had been charged with two counts of second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

Becker says the case was investigated, but not prosecuted until after the victim died this spring. Becker says the case resurfaced then and enough evidence was gathered to prosecute.

Williams is currently set for sentencing Dec. 5. She resigned from Franklin County High School on Friday.
