Teacher of the Week: Kendra King, Garden Springs Elementary

Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ)– Kindergarten can be a tough time for kids as they transition to school. That’s where teachers like Kendra King from Garden Springs Elementary play a major role.

“It’s such a rewarding job and you see how much they learn and grow, and I’m just really grateful that I get to be here to witness that and to be part of their lives.” said King.

For the vast majority of this fall semester, school has been virtual. It’s been hard on students and parents, but Mrs. King is doing everything she can to make things better.

“You’re trying to make it as close to as an in-person experience as possible, and they are really thriving.” said King.

That’s why she was nominated. Her bubbly personality and fun demeanor is a needed light in the day for students.

“Kindergarten is so crucial because it does develop those attitudes towards school, and we want them to be excited and eager to learn. So I think this really sets the tone for how they view school.” said King.

When King sends an email, she has a special message at the bottom.

“Let them be little, fill their hearts with laughter, help them grow wings, nurture their sense of wonder, inspire them to believe, and love them like there’s no tomorrow.” said King of the message on her email.

That’s what she says is the most important aspect of her job.

“Ultimately, I want them to feel loved. I want them to know that they are loved and cared about and that I believe in them and they should believe in themselves.” said King.
