Tailgating more somber one week after little boy’s death
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- The mood out tailgating before Saturday’s game seemed more somber than usual.
Many solid blue fans say that’s because they’re thinking about four-year-old Marco Lee Shemwell, who died during last week’s game when a freshman accused of driving drunk reportedly hit him while Shemwell was waiting to cross Cooper Drive with his dad.
Football coach Mark Stoops says there will be a moment of silence before the game today in his memory.
Stoops, team members, first responders, and medical staff will also serve as honorary pallbearers in Shemwell’s funeral next week.
