In the wake of wildfires that forced the evacuation of people in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and surrounding areas, several Kentucky groups have begun gathering food and supplies to send to the affected areas.
Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) and Kentucky Division of Forestry (KDF) officials urge citizens in, or near, the areas impacted by wildfires to be prepared to take immediate action. Being ready for a wildfire could save your property or save your life!
Dangerous forest fires continue to burn in eastern and southern Kentucky with more counties and parks choosing to enforce burn bans. Forest officials in Red River Gorge say they are worried we could see wildfires in this part of the state. Even with the bit of rain we had Thursday, leaves are still crisp and ready to burn so forest officials say they are relying on you to prevent fire.
