Central Kentuckians and horse racing lovers the world over know how special thoroughbred retirement farm Old Friends is, but now an even larger group will be able to get to know the farm and its founder Michael Blowen.
12 years ago former Boston Globe movie critic Michael Blowen moved out to the Bluegrass to take care of what is now 104 race horses also living out their retirement. And every year at the open house the farm's keeping visitors like Amy Gulbrandson from California in town for one more day.
Some were racetrack winners and descendants of racing royalty, while others were also-rans or never raced at all. All 11 thoroughbreds were remembered in a Memorial Day service in Kentucky horse country.
