T-shirt quilts to help Mercer County family remember loved one
HARRODSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ)- When a Mercer County cable worker was hit and killed on the job, his family began the process of figuring out how to remember him. It didn’t take long before someone had an idea.
Investigators say Dennis Cocanougher had his hazard lights on and cone out on Moberly Road when he was hit by a driver who didn’t see him. No charges were filed against the driver.
Samantha Harp, Cocanougher’s niece came up with fitting way for his children and wife to get a piece of him, one they could hold on to.
“Dennis was a really great person,” says Harp. With the help of a co-worker, Harp discovered she had an outlet to have quilts made in Cocanougher’s memory.
She says she went through all of his t-shirts with her cousins and aunt, allowing them to pick shirts that held special meaning with them.
“Asked them what colors they wanted and if they had any special requests or anything like that,” says Harp.
Cocanougher’s wife, Carin, in a Facebook message says she’s so excited to see the quilts.
There will also be a benefit for the family at La Fonda, a Mexican restaurant in Harrodsburg July 11-17th. The restaurant has committed to giving $1 out of every $10 to the family.
