Swimming Joins MSC At University of The Cumberlands

The University of the Cumberlands men and women’s swim teams have been added to the Mid-South Conference’s championship lineup beginning in the 2014-2015 season, MSC Commission Eric Ward announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Men and women’s swimming becomes the 21st and 22nd championship sports sponsored by the Mid-South.

By reaching championship sport status, swimming is added to the list of sports eligible for MSC President’s Cup points, the conference’s all-sports trophy. Swimming student-athletes also are eligible for all-conference awards.

“The Mid-South Conference is excited about the addition of swimming as a championship sport for the 2014-2015 academic calendar year," Ward said. "This is another opportunity for our conference to recognize even more of our members’ student-athletes for their academic achievements, character development and athletic successes.”

“This is great news for the advancement of swimming in our conference," UC Swim Coach Skelly said. "We are currently now the only NAIA conference that has swimming as a sponsored sport, so this is great not only for the University and the MSC, but it helps the NAIA as well."

The conference championship, to be hosted by UC, is scheduled to be contested Feb. 6th-7th in Williamsburg, Ky.

"Now, it’s my job to prepare my teams for a run at the MSC Championships as well as the NAIA National Title,” Skelly said.
