LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW via LEX NEWS) –

Update: May 28 at 6 p.m.

A police standoff in southeast Lexington on Darby Creek Road at the Burning Bush Townhomes has now ended.

Lexington officers had blocked off the street and fired a non-lethal round, utilizing a loud speaker to demand the suspect to exit the building and surrender.

A nearby resident, Timothy Miller, stated that several neighbors were upset about the streets being blocked off, but said he understood the need for the barricade.

“If you look around, there’s people joking around right now from the tear gas they’re putting into the house, and so I think they did exactly what they needed to do. They’re not being overbearing about it. I think they’re being pretty safe about it,” Miller told ABC 36 News.

A neighbor reported to ABC 36 News that the suspect was seen leaving the premises in an ambulance. The Lexington Police Department has not confirmed this or released the identity of the suspect to the public.

Original story:

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including SWAT and Kentucky State Police, responded Thursday afternoon to a barricade situation on Darby Creek Road at the Burning Bush Townhomes in Lexington.

Lexwrecks on X reported that the roadway on Darby Creek Road between Man O’ War Boulevard and Palumbo Drive was closed.

A loud bang was heard, which police later said was a non-lethal round. Authorities were heard calling for one person to come out of an apartment, stating they had a search warrant and ordering the individual to exit with their hands up.

An SRT unit with a K9 was also visible on scene. Authorities were heard repeating the name of a suspect and warning that he would be bitten by the K9 if he did not comply.

A nearby resident said the situation was out of the ordinary and very unusual, especially for the time of day.

As of 4 p.m. on Thursday, the alleged suspect has not been arrested and the scene remains active.

This is a developing story and ABC 36 News will have additional information as it becomes available.
