Suspicious package found outside federal building in Louisville

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11/WTVQ) – A suspicious package was found at the Romano Mazzoli Federal Building in downtown Louisville Tuesday morning, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The Louisville Metro Police Department bomb squad was called to the building, according to LMPD.

DHS said the package was found at the loading dock of the building and was found by a guard. The federal building was evacuated after the package was found.

The bomb squad is working to assess the suspicious package.

This building is located in the 600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Place.  The road at 6th and Chestnut is closed at this time.

LMPD is assisting with this situation.

Homeland Security said neighboring buildings are OK and there is no danger to the safety of those who are inside those buildings.
