Suspect and victim in kidnapping killed during officer-involved shooting
CRESTWOOD, Ky. (WTVQ) — Kentucky State Police say a suspect and a victim of a kidnapping in Ohio are dead during an officer-involved shooting in Oldham County.
State police say they were called by officials in Gallatin County after they received a 911 call about a “distressed female at a gas station that was forced into a vehicle by a male” on Monday afternoon.
Police located the suspect’s van in Henry County and started a pursuit south on Interstate 71.
They say the driver left the interstate at the Pee Wee Valley ramp in Oldham County, where troopers tried using stop sticks but were not successful.
Police were able to corner the driver and, while officers were trying to arrest the suspect in the vehicle, a trooper heard a gunshot inside the van, according to state police.
The trooper perceived the gunshot as an “immediate threat to himself and the female passenger” and fired his gun, according to state police.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Ty’rell Pounds, of Mansfield, Ohio, was killed by the gunfire, according to state police.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Skylar Williams, of Mansfield, Ohio, was also shot at least once and was taken to a hospital where she died of her injuries.
State police did not indicate if Williams was killed by a gunshot fired by Pounds or the trooper.
