Suspect killed after exchange of gunfire with Kentucky deputies

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A man is dead after exchanging gunfire with deputies during a chase in Nelson County on Sunday afternoon.

According to Kentucky State Police, the incident began around 3:45 p.m. after a 911 call from the suspect’s father, who reported that his son was at his home firing a gun in a threatening manner.

Deputies located the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Terry Carney, who then led them on a pursuit that ended when he crashed his truck on Woodlawn Road near Bardstown. Investigators say Carney rammed a deputy’s cruiser and fired shots at law enforcement before deputies returned fire, killing him.

State Police confirm no one else was injured during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
