Suspect identified in December shooting death of Maurice Elliot

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Lexington police have identified a suspect in the December 26, 2024, shooting death of 63-year-old Maurice Elliot, according to an updated release from the department.

On December 26, at approximately 1:56 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 400 block of Newtown Pike. When they got there, they found Elliot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.

Detectives, with assistance from the department’s Real-Time Intelligence Center and Fusus network, identified 54-year-old Shawn Blanks as the suspect, according to the release. Blanks now has active warrants for murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon in connection with Elliot’s death.

Blanks, who was named Bluegrass Crime Stoppers’ Most Wanted Person of the Week Wednesday, is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing approximately 152 pounds.
