Suspect dies after drug overdose in K.S.P. patrol vehicle

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police is investigating the death of a 49-year-old suspect, Shawn Gibson, who reportedly overdosed on drugs while in police custody.

According to investigators, Gibson allegedly ingested drugs in the back seat of a state police patrol vehicle following his arrest during a traffic stop on North Highway 66 earlier this week.

Authorities say Gibson was taken to a hospital shortly after the incident but later died.

Police are now awaiting results from a toxicology report to determine the specifics of his death.

The investigation into the circumstances of the overdose is ongoing.
