UPDATE: Police identify suspect, victim in deadly Frankfort shooting

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police in Frankfort are releasing additional information about a fatal shooting Monday afternoon.

Officers say, at around 4:45 p.m., they were called to the 400 block of Owenton Avenue, where they found a man laying in the street with a gunshot wound.  The man, now identified as 27-year-old Denton J. “DJ” Bixler, was taken to the Franklin Regional Medical Center for treatment.  He was later pronounced dead.

Officers say they found the suspect in the case, 54-year-old John G. Tabor, hiding behind a home, armed with a handgun.  Police say they had to negotiate with Tabor for about 30 minutes before he would put the gun down.  Officers then took him into custody and charged him with murder.

Tabor was taken to the Franklin County Regional Jail.

Suspect in custody after deadly shooting in Frankfort

A man was shot to death in broad daylight in Frankfort Monday afternoon, according to Frankfort Police.

Investigators say officers responded to a call around 4:45 p.m. on Owenton Avenue and found a man shot in the street. He was rushed to the hospital in Frankfort where he died. His name wasn’t immediately released.

Police say the accused shooter ran into the backyard of the home where the shooting occurred where there was a brief standoff, but eventually the suspect dropped the gun and was arrested without incident.

His name wasn’t immediately released since he was still being questioned by investigators.

Police are still trying to determine what led to the deadly shooting.
