Suspect charged in fatal I-71 shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Louisville Police have charged a man in connection with a shooting death on Interstate 71 Wednesday morning.

Louisville ABC affiliate WHAS11 reports that 43-year-old Christopher McCullum is facing a charge of murder after police say he was traveling southbound on I-71 and fired a gun into another vehicle also traveling southbound, killing a man.  His name was not released.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 71 were closed for about five hours while police investigated.

According to WHAS11, this is not McCullum’s first time in trouble with the law.  The TV station reports that last October he was charged with possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon.

The television station says the October arrest report shows McCullum was pulled over for a shattered front windshield, then the officer reportedly saw a 9mm bullet loose on the floor board.

The broadcast report says McCullum was found to have a baggie of marijuana, a crossbow, 2 rifles (1 loaded) and four loaded handguns in his van without a conceal carry license. WHAS11 reports that McCullum pleaded guilty to an amended drug charge and that the weapons charge was dismissed.
