Suspect in Cash Express robbery arrested

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington police said a man with a warrant out for his arrest for robbing a Cash Express after being denied a loan is now in custody.

According to court documents, 53-year-old Derrick Borders was taken into custody on Sunday, just one day after robbing the Shell station on Thunderstick Drive at gunpoint.

Police put out a warrant for his arrest last week after they said he robbed the Cash Express on East New Circle Road.

According to documents, Borders went into the business and requested a loan. The employee gave him an application to fill out. Documents said Borders returned but did not have the paperwork filled out. He told the employee he took out a payday loan before, so he should be in their system. The employee looked him up and found Borders was red-flagged and not able to get a loan.

Documents said when they employee told him that, he implied he had a weapon and demanded money. After getting money, documents said he told the employee to go to the back room and then left.

Borders is also accused of stealing almost $3,000 worth of tools from one of his employers and breaking into the office of another employer and stealing cash.

Border is charged with two counts of robbery, burglary and receiving stolen property.
