Suspect accused of stealing items from vehicles at a Lexington park

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police arrest a man they say was stealing items from people’s vehicles while they were at a Lexington park.

Police say they were called to Shillito Park on Tuesday night, after several vehicles were found with windows broken out and items missing from inside.

An off-duty officer at the park noticed 45-year-old Charles Michael Smith Jr. in the park and suspected he could be behind it.

Police say, after investigating further, Smith was taken into custody and charged with theft by unlawful taking from auto, criminal mischief and possession of burglar’s tools.
