Survey shows heroin use on rise in Kentucky
LOUSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A new survey from the Kentucky Health Issues Poll shows heroin use on the rise in Kentucky. The data in the report indicates that 11 percent of the people surveyed last year had a family member or friend that used heroin. In 2013, that figure was only 9 percent.
According to the survey, Eastern Kentucky has the highest percentage of adult heroin use, with 34 percent of respondents saying their was a problem there. Kentucky ranks fifth in the nation for drug overdose deaths.
In a story published in the Danville Advocate Messenger, more than 10 percent of babies born at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center are born addicted to drugs.
