Surveillance video shows alleged shooting in Berea
MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — The suspect accused of shooting a man in the chest in Berea Monday night is due in court on murder charges.
Police say 75-year-old Steven Gerlaugh was arrested Tuesday morning in Garrard County during a traffic stop after a multi-county search.
Officers say Gerlaugh is accused of shooting 42-year-old Thomas Rison in the chest Monday night on Baldwin Street in Berea. The coroner says Rison died a short time later at a hospital.
According to the arrest warrant issued for Gerlaugh, investigators say surveillance video at the time of the shooting shows Gerlaugh seated in his car speaking with Rison. Rison was standing next to the front driver’s side window when the video shows what police believe to be a muzzle flash, Rison collapsing and then Gerlaugh driving away.
Gerlaugh is being held at the Madison County Detention Center.
