Superintendent Manny Caulk to give annual “State of the Schools” speech
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Today, Superintendent Manny Caulk is scheduled to give his annual State of the Schools speech at 7:30 a.m. at the Lexington Convention Center Bluegrass Ballroom.
Recently, the Fayette County Board of Education unanimously passed a property tax increase that will generate an estimated 13.5 million dollars to pay for increased security at public schools, including metal detectors at all middle and high schools.
Opponents of the tax increase are currently trying to gather nearly 14,000 signatures of registered Fayette County voters to put the property tax to a county-wide vote.
The opponents aren’t arguing against improved security and safety for students, faculty and staff at each school, they just don’t want a tax increase to pay for it, they want school officials to find that money in their existing budget.
We’ll see if Superintendent Manny Caulk addresses this at all in his speech.
