Study: Better memories for child liars
(CNN) – According to an article in the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, children who can skillfully spin lies at a young age are more likely to have better verbal memory recall.
The researcher said that it’s due to the mental effort it takes for a kid to keep their lies straight – both what they’ve already said, and what they think happened from the other person’s point of view. The children who told convincing lies and kept their stories straight ended up doing better in later tests of memory and recall, and researchers concluded there was a significant link.
The study seems to show that lying in young children is perfectly normal, and it’s one of the main ways a young human starts developing their reasoning and memory skills.
