Students without hepatitis A vaccination stay home in Anderson County

ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – There have been several empty desks in Anderson County classrooms over the past few days.

The Anderson County Health Department is reporting around 95 students had to stay home from school because they weren’t compliant with the hepatitis A vaccination requirement.

The Anderson County Board of Education gave a September 7 deadline for students to have their immunization records up-to-date or they would not be allowed back at school.

The health department says Anderson County Middle School and Anderson County High School had the highest number of students who were not up-to-date on their hepatitis A vaccination.

Anderson County Middle School had 35 students out and Anderson County High School had 48 out.

A student at Anderson County High School tested positive for hepatitis A last month.

The school went through a deep cleaning process and sent a letter to the families of anyone who may have been in close contact with the infected student.
