The first day of school is a fresh beginning for all grade levels, with new experiences awaiting both first-year and graduating students. Superintendent Liggins expressed enthusiasm for the new school year, highlighting the unique journey that lies ahead for every student.

“I’d tell our kindergarteners, you know, stay strong. Continue to go it’s going to you’re going to have some nerves, you’re going to have some challenges, but you’re going to get through it. And for our seniors, enjoy it, you know, it’s your last first day,” said Supt. Liggins.

Mayor Gorton joined the festivities, using the opportunity to remind drivers to be cautious as school buses and children return to their daily routines.

“When I was coming in today, a lot of the buses, you know, they’re stopping to pick up children, so pay attention to the rules of stopping,” she said. “Especially if you’re in a two-lane road, you got to stop, and it’s all about safety out there on the roads,” said Mayor Gorton.

Fayette County Public Schools officials tell ABC 36 that all schools are fully staffed with 99% of teachers positions filled along with all bus drivers spots filled for the new school year.
