Students organize fundraiser to fight cancer
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Students at The Lexington School organized a fundraiser to fight cancer and support their friends who have been affected by the disease.
On Tuesday evening, the ‘Race For Pink 3K Fun Run/Walk’ was held at the football field at the school. Organizers say more than 100 runners and walkers took part, raising an estimated $2,000. The fundraiser was sponsored by The Lexington School track team.
"My mom had breast cancer when I was in first grade and I just started thinking about that and I wanted to do a run to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness," said student Leah Hale.
The children came up with the idea, planned it, negotiated with adults to promote it and donated the proceeds to the Kentucky Cancer Link.
