Students and faculty gather to remember Jonathan Krueger

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- It was an emotional day for students, faculty and staff at UK.

Early in the evening, with the death of 22-year-old Jonathan Krueger still fresh on their minds, they gathered to remember the young victim and celebrate his life.

Krueger took photographs.

"He immortalized so many moments and memories through his work behind the lens,” said Krueger’s college roommate.

His passion and profession are seen everywhere.

A snapshot into his personal life told us Sunday, he celebrated turning 22.

His words are haunting now. In a Facebook post he said, "There’s so much to be happy about and if this next year is anything like this last year, then it will be another one to remember."

Friends gave us a snapshot of who Jonathan Krueger was though.

"He was very uplifting and always positive."

"Everyone loves him. He’s just one of those guys everyone wants to be around."

A vigil, held on campus gave us an idea of how he’ll be remembered.

"I was a sophomore and Jon was a freshman assigned to my K team."

"Rest in peace, buddy,” and "love you, Jon,” weren’t uncommon from fraternity brothers and friends.

Soon, song turned to prayer, prayer turned to silence and silence revealed raw human emotion.

"I hope Heaven has the best scenery to take more pictures and I know you haven’t stopped smiling the whole time, but I know where you are is much better than the world we live in. I love you Jon and I miss you. Until we meet again."
