Student given $5,000 bond after bringing gun into library

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A Northern Kentucky University student has been given a $5,000 bond after she took a gun into a school library on Thursday.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports (http://cin.ci/1NNQRE8) 23-year-old Jaylin Johnson, of Covington, faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon, menacing and disorderly conduct.

School officials said campus police respond within a minute of a Thursday morning report by another student that Johnson had the weapon. Johnson didn’t brandish the gun, which was in her bag. She turned over the weapon without incident and was immediately taken into custody.

Prosecutors told Judge Gregory Popovich at a Friday morning bond hearing that Johnson’s gun was fully functional but improperly loaded or prepared.

Johnson was in custody at the Campbell County jail on Saturday. Her next court date is Sept. 3
