UPDATE: Student Accused of Bringing Gun to School to be Arraigned

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -A student accused of bringing a loaded gun to school is scheduled to be arrainged Thursday.

A letter from Tates Creek High School Principal Sam Meaux was sent out to parents Tuesday morning, saying a student had brought a loaded gun to the school.

According to Meaux, one of the student’s teachers noticed that 18-year-old Lamaar Sanford was not acting like himself, saying that he stood up while class was still going on and left the room.  The principal says that teacher alerted the front office, who called out school law enforcement to investigate.

Meaux says the Sanford was located, and that’s when officials say they saw the butt of the gun in a pocket of the student’s hoodie.

Sanford was taken to the school law enforcement office, where officials called the Lexington Police Department.

He has been charged with resisting arrest, concealing and carrying a deadly weapon, and unlicensed possession of a weapon at school.

According to Principal Meaux, Sanford told investigators he didn’t intend to harm anyone.

The principal says the student will face administrative consequences, along with his criminal charges.
