Storytelling Festival is this weekend at Big South Fork
ONEIDA, Tenn. (AP) – The 23rd annual Storytelling Festival is this weekend at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.
The event on Saturday concludes a week of storytelling, as professional storytellers have been touring schools in Fentress, Morgan, Pickett and Scott counties in Tennessee and McCreary and Wayne counties in Kentucky.
Big South Fork said in a news release it hires professional storytellers to visit local schools around the park to give the children an idea of the old traditions of telling stories.
The storytellers use voices, props and other means to tell fascinating stories about old times.
At the Storytelling Festival on Saturday at Bandy Creek Visitor Center, the storytellers offer tales of ancient legends and mystical places during the afternoon, turning to ghost stories and spooky tales as dark falls.
