Storms clear as cooler air settles in with chilly weekend ahead for Kentucky

After morning thunderstorms, gusty winds and falling temperatures usher in a colder pattern with a chance for snow showers by Sunday

Cooler air settles in after storms, chilly weekend ahead for central and eastern Kentucky

After starting the morning with showers and a few thunderstorms moving through the region, conditions have quieted down across central and eastern Kentucky. Those early storms were just ahead of a cold front, which has now pushed through the area and completely changed our weather pattern.

We began the day on a mild note with temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s, but once that front passed, cooler air quickly followed. Through the afternoon, highs will slip back into the low 50s under mostly sunny skies. It’s a great day to get outside, but you’ll definitely notice the cooler feel compared to yesterday.

Gusty winds and cooler temperatures take over today

Behind the cold front, winds have picked up and will stay breezy for much of the day. Some gusts could be strong at times, making it feel even cooler than the actual temperature. While the sunshine helps, it’s a good idea to grab a jacket if you’re heading out.

These cooler conditions are just the beginning of a colder stretch that will settle in for the weekend and early next week.

Clouds return tonight with a cooler feel

As we head into tonight, clouds will slowly increase again across the area. Temperatures will fall into the mid 30s by morning, setting up a noticeably chilly start to Saturday.

There may be a very small chance of an isolated shower in far southern Kentucky overnight, but most areas will stay dry.

Saturday stays mostly cloudy but milder than Sunday

Saturday will bring mostly cloudy skies with afternoon temperatures reaching the upper 40s to low 50s. While it won’t feel as cold as Sunday, it will still be cooler than what we experienced earlier in the week.

Any rain chances remain very low, and most of the day should stay dry.

Colder air returns Sunday with a chance for snow showers

Sunday is when the colder air really settles back in. High temperatures will struggle to get out of the mid 30s, making it feel much more like winter again.

A few snow showers may develop, especially in the afternoon, but at this time no accumulation is expected. Some areas may briefly see flakes flying, but this looks more like a chilly reminder of winter rather than a snow event.

Cold start to next week before warmer weather returns

Monday will stay mostly cloudy with highs again in the mid 30s. Overnight temperatures early next week could dip into the teens, making for a cold start to your mornings.

As we move toward the middle of next week, a warming trend returns. Temperatures will climb back into the low 50s, and another weather system could bring rain chances by Thursday.
