Stolen car recovered in Webster County chase

CLAY/WEBSTER COUNTY, Ky. (KSP)Trooper John Eilert, of Kentucky State Police Post 2 in Madisonville, observed a black 2012 Chevrolet Malibu traveling southbound on KY109, just south of Clay, around 10:43 p.m. Monday.

The vehicle matched the description of a car reported stolen from Henderson County earlier in the day.

When Eilert tried to stop the car, the driver took off. The pursuit continued to KY670 and then northbound on US41A and continued into Henderson County, where Trooper Wade Denton, of Post 16, successfully deployed tire spikes.

The stolen vehicle finally came to a stop after striking concrete barriers on Old Corydon Road. The operator, 23-year-old Joseph Carter, of Henderson, Ky., was arrested without further incident.

Carter is charged with:

  1. Speeding 26 MPH or > Speed Limit
  2. Receiving Stolen Property $10,000 or More
  3. DUI 1st
  4. Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
  5. Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree
  6. Operating on Suspended or Revoked Operators License
  7. Possession Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
  8. Possession of Marijuana
  9. Possession of Synthetic Drugs 1st Offense
  10. Drug Paraphernalia Buy/Possess
  11. Disregarding Stop Sign
  12. Disregarding Traffic Control Device Traffic Light
  13. Reckless
  14. Improper Lane Usage Vehicles Keep to Right Except to Pass

Carter was also served two warrants for Failure to Appear in Hopkins County.
