Step-grandmother arrested in girl’s death

DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A grand jury has indicted a central Kentucky woman on a murder charge in the death of her step-granddaughter.

Media report police arrested 40-year-old Shila Raley of Parksville on Thursday in the June death of 3-year-old Alexa K. Raley. An autopsy found that the girl died of blunt force trauma to her abdomen and torso.

Shila Raley is being held at the Boyle County Detention Center without bond. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she has an attorney.

Boyle County prosecutor Richie Bottoms said it took investigators a few months to get medical records and put the pieces together to identify a suspect.

He said only a limited number of people had contact with the girl.
