Staying safe when it’s cold
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – When it’s cold outside it’s tempting to stay indoors, but lots of people have a reason to be out.
A father and son had to be outside to shovel the driveway so they could go get supplies for their upcoming Superbowl party.
When they know they’ll be out for a while, they come prepared.
“Plenty of layers. Layer on long sleeve shirts, short sleeve shirts, sweatshirt, heavy jacket, gloves, 2 socks,” said Jason Zinser.
An emergency room doctor says it’s important to dress in layers and to shuffle your feet when you walk so you don’t slip on ice.
If you’re shoveling, the doctor says you shouldn’t swivel because it can throw you off balance and you could fall.
“Make sure when you’re lifting the snow that you’re using your lower extremities like your knees more than putting pressure on your back and arms which can also put you off balance,” said Dr. Alix McDonald-Smith,
Taking precautions like these let the Zinser’s get the job done and stay safe.
