Statewide tornado drill scheduled Wednesday as part of Kentucky Severe Weather Awareness Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentuckians will hear tornado sirens Wednesday morning as part of the annual statewide tornado drill during Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Officials say the drill is scheduled for 10:07 a.m. Wednesday.
During the exercise, the National Weather Service will issue a test tornado warning message designed to activate weather alert radios across the state.
In Fayette County, Lexington Emergency Management will also activate its network of outdoor warning sirens. The sirens will sound with a wail tone as part of the test.
Officials say the drill is meant to help people practice tornado safety procedures and prepare for severe weather.
Everyone is encouraged to take a few moments during the drill to practice what they would do in a real emergency at home, school, or work.
