State’s positivity rate, other barometers continue at or near record levels
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Just about every barometer of the COVID surge continued in record or near-record territory for another day Wednesday.
According to the state’s daily report, 4,941 cases were recorded, the third-highest single-day total since the pandemic began.
The governor also reported 12 deaths, a positivity rate of 13.35% and 2,534,200 Kentuckians vaccinated. The deaths pushed the state’s total to 7,776 while the new cases raised the total to 581,982.
The positivity rate was down from Tuesday’s record of 13.66% but part of the decline was caused by the continued significant increase in the number of people being tested when is holding the overall rate slightly lower, even with more positive tests.
Of the new cases, 1,560 were in people 18 and under. That was up from 1,407 on Tuesday.
The 2,267 people in the hospital is down slightly from 2,274 Tuesday but above the 2,198 Monday. The 644 people in ICU is a new record, breaking Tuesday’s mark of 617 which was up from 615 Monday. And the 410 people on a ventilator snapped Tuesday’s record of 406 and far ahead of Monday’s total of 361.
