State’s COVID report shows new cases near 1,600

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The latest report on COVID-19 in Kentucky adds to consistent increase in the virus’ presence.

The number of counties in the ‘red’ category for high incidence rates continues to climb, going from 28 to 36.

In Wednesday’s daily report, the state listed 1,593 new cases. The numbers brought the total number of cases in the state to 479,431.

The positivity rate went up to 8.29%, higher than Tuesday’s 8.11%.

Of the new cases, 343 are in people 18 and younger.

The state reported two new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing Kentucky’s total death toll since the pandemic to 7,325.

The state reported 571 people hospitalized, up from 520 on Tuesday; 185 in ICU, an increase from Tuesday’s 175; and 83 people on a ventilator, unchanged from Tuesday.
