State Senator Reggie Thomas files to run for Congress
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Senator Reggie Thomas, a Democrat from Lexington, filed Wednesday to run for Kentucky’s sixth congressional district seat.
Thomas was elected to the State Senate’s 13th District in 2013. He had practiced law in Lexington for nearly 40-years prior to his election to the State Senate.
If elected, Thomas would become Kentucky’s first African-American congressman. He will face opposition in the Democratic primary in May.
The winner of the primary will take on U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, a Lexington Republican in his third term in Congress.
“I launched this campaign in July with the goal to defeat Andy Barr,” Thomas said. Thomas added that he knows people in Kentucky will show they are ready for a change in November.
