UPDATE: Lawmaker’s son responds to commands after 33 days in a coma
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- State Representative Chris Harris says his son, who fell from a third floor apartment balcony, is beginning to respond to commands after more than a month in a coma.
Representative Harris posted this statement Tuesday on Facebook about his 19-year old son, Corbin, who fell from his balcony at The Lex apartments on South Broadway in Lexington in late August.
“I’ve had some really great days in my life, but none any better than today, October 2, 2018.
After 33 days in a coma, Corbin started responding to commands earlier today at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital in Lexington. While he still has a very long and uncertain road ahead, today marks the clearing of a huge hurdle in that he is able to process a command and act on it. Although Corbin faces months of rehabilitative therapy and we won’t know the lasting effects of his injury for years, we believe, with God’s help and continued prayers, he will continue to progress and improve.
Leslie and I again thank you for your kindness, understanding and prayers. We have truly been lifted up and felt the love of an entire state since Corbin’s accident. I can’t begin to describe how much the love and compassion that has been shown to our entire family during this time has meant to us. As we thank God for Corbin’s improvement, please keep him in your prayers as we begin what will be a very aggressive course of rehabilitation that will hopefully give him another chance at a meaningful life.”
Lexington Police concluded there was nothing criminal about Harris’ fall. He is a sophomore at the University of Kentucky.
